Mr. Anwar Mansoor Khan, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of Pakistan (Senior Partner). He was commissioned in the Pakistan Army in 1971, however, after the 1971 war upon return in 1973, he opted to quit the Army and sought pre-mature retirement. On leaving the Army in 1974 he started pursuing the profession of law. He has served as a Judge of the High Court from where he resigned and rejoined the Law Practice. He was appointed the Advocate General of Sindh and remained in office for a period of five years. He has also served as the Attorney General for Pakistan. He having an experience of over 45 years with numerous reported land mark judgments. He was conferred with the title of Senior Advocate in the year 2010 having been adjudged by the Supreme Court of Pakistan for having knowledge, ability and experience, to be worth of being granted the status and title of Senior Advocate. He appears before the High Courts all over Pakistan and the Supreme Court of Pakistan. He is a member of the Company Law Commission for the purposes of redrafting of the Company Law in Pakistan.
Amongst his contribution to law itself, Mr. Anwar has been associated in the drafting of the Income Tax Ordinance 1979, Companies Ordinance 1984, the establishment of the Islamic Banking Systems in Pakistan, in nationalization of Insurance Companies and creation of State Life Corporation, in drawing up various documentation of the Banking System, the establishment of Lease financing in Pakistan, drafting of the Recovery Laws for Banks. Has delivered series of lectures on Banking Systems, Corporate matters, Leasing Laws, Taxation Laws, matters relating to Mercantile Laws, Admirality, Shipping, Insurance, Trade Marks, Patents and Designs, Alternate Dispute Resolution, Constitutional Laws, Land and Property Laws and other allied subject.
Was elevated as a Judge of the High Court of Sindh in the year 2000, however took an early retirement in 2001, to continue with his Legal Practice. Whilst a judge of the High Court of Sindh, he delivered numerous judgments on banking practice in Pakistan, Company Law, Shipping, Insurance, Trade Marks, Patents and designs, agencies and Franchising disputes, Specific Relief, Rent matters , Construction and Construction Contracts and other subjects of Civil Law.
He has been involved in international alternate dispute resolution, which includes Negotiation, Mediation and Arbitration. He was on the Board of the Karachi Centre for Dispute Resolution (A project initiated by IFC for ADR in Pakistan). He is currently the Vice President of the National Centre for Dispute Resolution (NCDR). He has been involved in conducting international and local arbitration as well as enforcement of the arbitral awards in Pakistan. He has expertise in the drawing of various negotiated agreements. He has also advised on takeovers, acquisitions and buyouts of various companies and has and continues to conduct various merger proceedings. He has conducted numerous matters of Constitutional issues, and is considered to be an expert on the Constitutional issues. He has represented Pakistan before the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
Mr. Anwar, has delivered series of lectures on numerous subjects, on Banking Systems, Corporate matters, leasing laws, acquisition and mergers, taxation laws, mercantile laws, competition laws, cyber-crimes, medical law, legal aid and education, altercate dispute resolution, Constitutional law and host of other allied subjects.
Has been involved in international negotiation and drawing of various agency and franchising agreements in consequence thereof. He has advised on takeovers, acquisitions and buyouts of various companies and has and continues to conduct various merger proceedings.
Was an Alternate Judge for two years, appointed by the ‘International Chamber of Commerce’. (ICC).
He appeared before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) against India in the Kalbushan Yadhav case on behalf of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
Was involved in various Arbitration under various international legal systems and also before ICSID on behalf of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
Negotiated successfully the settlement between the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and Karkay, (a Turkish company) where the order by ICSID was against Pakistan
Involved in the drafting of the revision in relation to challenging the decision of ICSID in the Riko Dig Case.
Has conducted international Arbitration, in commercial matter and cotton disputes. In addition has also overseen, as the Attorney General in matters of Public and Private International Laws
He holds a LLB degree from Pakistan. He has experience spreading for over 40 years. Mr. Anwar Mansoor Khan, was appointed as the Attorney General of Pakistan in August 2018 and after holding office for a period of 1.5 years, Mr. Anwar resigned as Attorney General and returned to private practice, resuming his role as Senior Partner.
